HC defers contempt proceedings against CS, CEO

SRINAGAR, Aug 23: High Court today deferred the hearing of contempt proceedings against Chief Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer Ladakh UT for not issuing election symbol to the National Conference as the matter is subjudice before the Supreme Court.
Justice Sindhu Sharma deferred the hearing in contempt proceedings as the court has been informed that the matter is listed for hearing before the Supreme Court on August 25.
The CS and CEO were required to be present before the court today but an application has been filed on their behalf seeking exemption from their personal appearance in terms of order dated 21st August, 2023.
The applicants submited that the Union Territory of Ladakh has filed an SLP before the Supreme Court against the judgment and orders of August 21, 2023 and the same is listed for hearing on August 25, 2023.
“Therefore, till the matter is heard, the proceedings in this contempt petition be deferred and the applicants be exempted from personal appearance. Since the Supreme Court is already seized of the matter, therefore, respondent Nos. 1 and 2 are exempted from personal appearance till further orders from this court”, the court ordered.
