JAMMU, Oct 24: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking court’s intervention in the backdrop of failure of State agencies to track down the perpetrators of braid chopping crime, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today directed that the crime mapping shall be done with regard to all the incidents which have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir which should indicate the exact locations and timing of the crimes.
After hearing Advocates Hilal Akbar Lone, M A Qayoom, G N Shaheen for the PIL and Senior AAG BA Dar for the State, the DB further directed the State to ensure that there is proper patrolling/Naka/night surveillance and the Police should take preventive measures so as to prevent such incidents in future.
“The status report shall indicate the preventive measures that have been undertaken and will be undertaken”, the DB further directed, adding “the status report shall also indicate the data collected from other States such as UP, Rajasthan and Haryana. The data of other States should indicate as to whether the FIRs have resulted in filing of charge sheets, whether persons have been arrested and whether any person has been convicted”.
