HC directs for accommodation to CBI team

Srinagar, Dec 7: High Court today directed the Government to provide accommodation and manpower to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team in order to facilitate it to investigate the theft of 400-year old manuscript of Quran.
The Division Bench of Justice MH Attar and Justice B S Walia after going through the  request made by the Inspector of Police CBI, directed the Chief Secretary of the State to provide accommodation and manpower to the investigating team so that the theft of the manuscript is concluded at the earliest.
CBI in its compliance report stated that in terms of court directions, the case of theft has been registered by the CBI in the month of October and the investigation of the case has been started. CBI in its report has also expressed that to conduct speedy investigation in the case, the Government through CS  be directed to provide suitable accommodation and manpower, transport facility as also one officer of Crime Branch who would be acquainted with the case.
“The Chief Secretary shall consider the request of CBI and provide necessary logistic support to enable the authority to conclude the investigation of the case at the earliest”, Division Bench directed and sought report from the Government in this regard by next date hearing in the matter. Court also directed CBI for filing of fresh status report about the investigation of the case before next date.
The investigation of the case was transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation by the court in the month of September this year after Inspector General of Police made the statement that the investigation has not been carried fairly by Crime Branch.
