SRINAGAR, Dec 17: The State High Court today directed the authorities to take immediate steps to provide necessary facilities at International airport Srinagar to the passengers.
The Division Bench of Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey while hearing suo-moto proceedings on the issue arrayed Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, Air Commodore Indian Airports as also Chief Secretary of the State as respondents in the PIL and issued notice to all of them for filing their response to the PIL.
Division Bench further directed all these authorities to take immediate steps for providing necessary facilities to the passengers, travelling to and fro Kashmir by air. “It is further provided that whatever steps, required to be taken for providing the facilities to the passengers and ensuring their smooth travel, shall be taken forthwith”, DB directed and sough compliance report from all these authorities in this regard by or before next date of hearing which has been fixed by the court in the week commencing from December 26.
A PIL initiated by Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and thereafter Chief Justice of the State has directed the issue involved be treated as suo-moto in view of public interest. While taking cognizance of the issue, Justice Magrey noticed that the Airport Authority of India has, prima facie, failed to take notice of hardships and difficulties being regularly faced by the people, who travel to & fro Kashmir by air.
It has also been noticed in the suo-moto proceedings that the said authority has prima facie, failed to take appropriate remedial measures by upgrading the lighting system and installing the required gadgets at Srinagar Airport as such said authority has failed to discharge its public duty.
“In this fact situation, the Union of India through Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, Airports Authority of India through its Chairman and Air Commodore, Indian Airports, posted at Air Force Station, Srinagar, are at this stage, impleaded as party respondents in this PIL. The State of J&K through Chief Secretary is also impleaded as party respondent in this PIL”, the order read.
