HC directs JMC to file policy for street vendors within 4 weeks

JAMMU, Dec 10: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Jagdish Chander Gupta highlighting illegal encroachments by the shopkeepers and other unknown persons in the JDA Shopping Complex, Mohalla Old Hospital Road, near City Chowk and in adjoining areas, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan has directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation to file a policy for the street vendors within a period of four weeks.
After hearing Advocate Ajay Sharma for the PIL whereas Advocate Sachin Gupta for the JMC, the DB observed, “counsel for the JMC informed this court that a policy stands drafted on the issue of vendors and hawkers in the State which is pending with Administrative Department and sought time to place the same on record”.
Division Bench directed JMC to file policy within four weeks.
