JAMMU, Oct 16: Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice Hasnain Masoodi and Justice B S Walia today directed the Power Development Department to consider the release of liabilities/amount due for the works done by M/s Tawi Transformers & Cables and J K Transformers & Switchgears for the last 3 years.
Senior Advocate S S Lehar assisted by Advocate Aditya Sharma appearing for M/s Tawi Transformers & Cables and J K Transformers & Switchgears, submitted that petitioners have rendered services for preparing/repairing the transformers and other electrical products for the last many years for the Power Development Department in order to make it possible for the department to provide un-interrupted power to the people of Jammu.
“In order to perform their job smoothly, avoid public grievances and meet the requirement of supplies for the PDD, the petitioners have even taken huge loans from the market as well as from the banks”, they further submitted, adding “thought the Chief Engineer, Electrical Maintenance & Rural Electrification Wing, Jammu had written to the Development Commissioner, PDD with respect to the liabilities but nothing has been done by the State Government”.
They said that petitioners’ industries and their workers have been suffering from acute financial hardships and have reached the stage of starvation due to the negligent act of the PDD.
After hearing counsels for the petitioners, the DB disposed off the appeal with the direction to the Power Development Department to accord consideration for release of amount whatever due to them on account of supplies made/works executed and the consideration order be passed within 4 weeks time.
