Srinagar, Mar 19: Expressing its displeasure over closure report filed by Superintendent of Police Crime Branch with regard to theft of Holy Quran from Shri Pratap Singh (SPS) museum, Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed him to be present before the court on next hearing.
The Superintendent of Police Crime Branch, has been entrusted with the investigation in stealing of Holy Quran, which bear the seal of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
The Holy Quran has been stolen from Shri Pratap Singh (SPS) Museum in the year 2003 and in this regard FIR was also lodged in Police Station Raj Bagh, Srinagar. Court has expressed its displeasure about the closure of the case as ‘untraced’.
The direction of personal appearance of SP has been passed by a Division Bench of Justices Muzaffar Hussain Attar and B S Walia followed submissions by Senior Additional Advocate General N A Beigh that the Crime Branch has filed closure report before competent court and closed the case (FIR No. 106/2003) lodged in Police Station Rajbagh as “untraced.”
High Court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by a Srinagar based social organization Valley Citizen’s Council,), seeking directions for the protection and conservation of artifacts, monuments and excavation sites in Kashmir.
