HC directs Revenue, Forest Deptts to prevent encroachment of land

JAMMU, May 4: High Court has directed the Revenue and Forest Departments to prevent encroachment of State and Forest land in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The direction has been passed in a petition filed by inhabitants of village Chatta, Sunjwan alleging encroachment of State and Forest land.
In the petition, the inhabitants have expressed concern over illegal/unlawful action of the respondents whereby they have started grabbing/encroaching all the State/Forest land as well as water bodies situated at village Chatta under Khasra Nos. 852, 1441, 1442, 1445, 1447, 1452, 2198 and 2202.
After hearing Advocate Arshad Majid Malik for the petitioners, Justice Sindhu Sharma issued notice to Commissioner/ Secretary GAD, Revenue and Forest Departments, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, VC JDA, Deputy Commissioner and others with the direction to file objections within four weeks.
High Court further directed the respondents to take necessary steps for preventing the encroachment, if any, made on the land.
