Srinagar, Dec 5: Expressing dissatisfaction over bio-medical waste disposal in hospitals, High Court today directed the Health Department to ensure that the arrangements are made for removal of bio-medical and solid waste on daily basis as per rules.
A Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar after examining the fresh status report on waste disposal in hospitals showed its dissatisfaction.
“Earlier direction was not complied with, last response was not found satisfactory. Today, fresh status report has been filed, but we are not satisfied with the same because the hazardous waste and other waste is not being removed in accordance with rules and Act of 1998,” the bench observed.
The court asked the respondents through senior Additional Advocate General J A Kawoosa why they were waiting for people to come to court.
“You are implementing rules after court is asking you, why not earlier. Now, of late, with the intervention of this court in the public interest litigation, the authorities have taken certain steps.”
Court was hearing a PIL about management and work of hospitals including Psychiatry Hospital Srinagar.
The court also directed the respondents to take immediate steps for procurement of the vehicle after the respondents submitted in the status report that the authorities approached State Motor Garages for procurement of medium sized dumper-placer for hospitals for quick disposal of wastes on daily basis.
