HC for rehab of Gulmarg shopkeepers

Srinagar, Oct 17: The High Court today sought the personal appearance of Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority by tomorrow in contempt proceedings with regard to rehabilitation of shopkeepers of the Ski resort.
Division Bench of Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Rahul Bharti has sought personal appearance of the said officer by tomorrow and said in case he fails to appear then court would issue bailable warrants to secure their presence.
Court said that it is on account of inaction on the part of the respondents, the petitioners are compelled to file the present contempt petition on 02.12.2016 and the same is pending till date.
Court said Government has filed a review petition and  it appears that the review petition has been filed after an inordinate delay in order to obfuscate the proceedings in the contempt proceedings.
Court said that the CEO has already prayed for sufficient time to rehabilitate these shopkeepers while doing so the court had directed him to effect rehabilitation of shopkeepers affected by fire within six months.
The compliance report  of Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority has already explained that action in the matter with regard to the rehabilitation of the affected shopkeepers has to be undertaken by the Government and in this regard a Communication already stands addressed to the Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Tourism Department.
The shops of aggrieved persons were displaced by the GDA for beautification of resort way back in 1999 and  some of them were rehabilitated leaving the aggrieved shopkeepers behind which compelled them to approach the court.
