SRINAGAR, Sept 23: A Full Court Reference on the sad demise of Justice Mian Jalal-ud-Din and Justice Satish Chandra Mathur, former Chief Justices, High Court of J&K, was held at High Court, here today.
Proceedings were conducted by Kaneez Fatima, Registrar General of High Court.
Chief Justice, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar while speaking on the occasion expressed heartfelt sympathies and condolences with members of bereaved families and said that both Chief Justices were eminent jurists. They had sharp intellect and profound knowledge of law.
He said that they were known for their administrative skills and have carved out a place for themselves in the judicial history of the State. They delivered many landmark judgments which find place of prominence in Law Journals, he added. Both were fine human beings and their demise has created a vacuum in the legal field, which is difficult to fill. Their memories will linger on in our minds for all times to come, the Chief Justice remarked.
Advocate General, Jahangir Iqbal Ganai offering condolences said that Justice Mian Jalal-ud-Din and Justice Mathur were both great Jurists and Noble souls. Their judgments are lucid and profound. They delivered many land mark judgments as Chief Justices of this High Court.
One minute’s silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Judicial Officers, Law Officers, Assistant Solicitor General and other officers of the High Court were present on the occasion.
