HC issues contempt notice to Education Deptt

Srinagar, Nov 20: High Court today in a contempt petition filed for not making policy to lessen the burden of school bags for children issued notice to Education Department authorities for filing reply.
The petitioner submitted before the court that in terms of previous direction the Government was supposed to frame a policy on the issue within three months and despite the lapse of three months there is no policy decision from the Government.
The Division Bench issued notice to authorities of Education Department for submitting their reply to the contention raised in the contempt petition with regard to non compliance of court order.
A Governmental committee was constituted which suggested lessening the burden of school bags for children, however the School Education Department has not implemented its recommendations.
It is in August last year, an expert committee submitted its report to the Government recommending therein the ways to reduce the weight of bags of school going children.
But those recommendation are yet to be implemented resulting into delay in making the policy decision on the said crucial issue.
The report of the four member committee headed by Chairman BOSE was submitted to Government last year for implementation but is still awaited for its implementation.
