SRINAGAR : The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today issued notices to Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) president Farooq Abdullah in an alleged multi crore scam in Cricket Association.
A division bench issued notices to the National Conference President on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by two cricketers.
In the PIL, former Ranji Trophy player Majid Yaqoob Dar and Nissar Ahmad Khan had alleged that crores of rupees were swindled by office-bearers of the JKCA.
They also alleged that the officebearers used the money meant for the association for their personal gains. While issuing the notice, the court asked Dr Abdullah to respond to allegations.
The court also directed investigating agencies to expedite the investigation and file a âproperâte status report by next date of hearing, fixed for the next week.
Earlier, the court had issued notices to the state government through Chief Secretary and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The scam relates to a sum of Rs 50 crore in subsidies intended to promote sports, especially cricket in the state.
The money, received from BCCI has been allegedly diverted to different bank accounts opened in the name of the JKCA by its officials. In March 2012, allegations were levelled against Dr Abdullah, that he was involved in the scam. (agencies)
