HC orders status-quo on Motor Vehicle Inspectors posts

JAMMU, Mar 24: In a petition filed by Junior Engineers (Mechanical) from PW(R&B) Department having been brought in the Motor Vehicle Department against available vacancies of Motor Vehicle Inspectors, High Court today issued notice to the Commissioner Secretary Transport Department.
In the petition, it was submitted that the petitioners possess all the qualifications/eligibilities prescribed under J&K Transport Controller (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules read with SRO 263 of 08.08.2012, for the recruitment of Motor Vehicle Inspectors.
They sought quashment of Transport Commissioner’s Order No. TC/JK/Estt./673 dated 29.01.2015, being in violation of the Transport Controller’s (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 1974 read with SRO 263 of 08.08.2012 and also seeking direction to respondents for considering the petitioners for their  permanent absorption in the Motor Vehicles Department in terms of the recommendations vide Transport Commissioner’s No. TC/JK/Esst./3264 dated 22.05.2014.
After hearing Advocate Vikram Sharma with Suresh Sharma appearing for the petitioner, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal issued notices to the Commissioner Secretary Transport Department returnable within four weeks with the directions to file objections.
In the meanwhile, High Court directed respondents that till next date, status quo in regard to the post held by the petitioners shall be maintained.
