HC organizes oath taking, licenses distribution ceremony

SRINAGAR, Aug 8: State Judicial Academy under the guidance and instructions of its Chief Patron and Chief Justice of State High Court Justice M M Kumar and Judge Incharge, State Judicial Academy Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, today organized oath taking ceremony and distribution of Advocates’ license in the High Court Complex, here for the new entrants to the legal profession.
The function was presided over by Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir. Before delivery of enrolment certificates (Advocate license) to the 14 Advocates of Kashmir province, they were administered oath by Director, State Judicial Academy Abdul Wahid.
This was for the first time in the history of High Court that such a function of oath taking ceremony and distribution of enrolment certificates was organized for the new entrants to the legal profession.
In his address, Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir enlightened the new entrants to the legal profession about the ethics and conduct. He told them that they must know that Advocacy is the process of standing alongside an individual who feels to have been disadvantaged and speaking out on his behalf in a way that renders the fullest assistance to the Court to reach at a just conclusion in the case and at the same time, represents the interest of his client.
“An Advocate is not a free man to do whatever he likes after obtaining license to practice. There are certain duties and responsibilities cast upon him by the statute as to the manner in which he should conduct himself as a professional”, he said, adding “his conduct, discipline, rights and duties are regulated by a statute known as Advocates Act, 1961 and the Rules framed there under”.
In his concluding remarks, Director, State Judicial Academy Abdul Wahid said that the advices, words of wisdom and suggestions would go a long way in making the enrolled advocates a very good professional lawyer. He said that such functions under the directions of the Chief Justice would be regular feature where newly enrolled Advocates will be delivered Advocates’ license after administration of oath.
