Srinagar, Oct 23: High Court today prohibited entry of heavy vehicles on entry point of Pantha Chowk in morning and evening hours.
The Division Bench headed by Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar directed that entry of heavy vehicles in and around the Pantha Chowk area is prohibited till further orders. The ban on entry of heavy vehicles has been ordered between morning hours (9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.) and evening hours (4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.).
Perusal of status report filed by the concerned authorities, which indicates that till completion of widening of Pantha Chowk stretch, a temporary arrangement of banning the entry of all heavy vehicles is in place during peak and rush hours.
The direction of ban on entry of heavy vehicles has been passed after amicus curie to the PIL seeking direction for decongestion and smooth plying of traffic in Srinagar city, submitted that notwithstanding the stand taken in status report, still the authorities are permitting the entry of such kind of vehicles as such he prayed before the bench that there should be a prohibition on entry of these vehicles during the peak hours on the said road.
“Till further orders, the entry of heavy goods vehicles in and around the Pantha Chowk area is prohibited during the peak hours i.e. between 9 to 11 AM in the morning and 4 to 6 PM in the evening on all working days”, directed the court.
Court also directed the State counsel to file the latest status report by next date of hearing, as he sought time for filing the same.
