SRINAGAR, June 9: High Court today directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic to submit her 10 points before the Court in order to eradicate the traffic congestion in and around city and nominated a committee to chalk out future plan for traffic issues.
The ten point suggestions have been sought by the Division Bench of Chief Justice Badar Durez Ahmad and Justice M K Hanjura from SSP Traffic Sargun Shukla who was present in the court so that the directions be issued to SMC, SDA, Transport Department etc in accordance with these points to bring down the traffic mess in the Srinagar city and its adjoining areas.
During the proceedings of the case, SSP Traffic apprised the court about the improvement made during the last four months for tackling the traffic mess. She made a video presentation in Chief Justice’s court in comprehensive details.
In her presentation she apprised the court about progress made in the construction of various bridges, widening of roads, do away with the bottlenecks at various places and displacing the vendors etc.
Court appreciated the way the presentation given by Shukla which demonstrated the drone pictures of city and its adjoining areas. She also apprised the court as to what is required to do further.
Court also nominated a committee to chalk out the plan of action for reducing the traffic congestion and directed the committee to meet once in a month with other stake holders for effective plans on the issues of traffic jamming. The committee consists of Divisional Commissioner, Transport Commissioner, Vice Chairman SDA and Commissioner SMC.
On pollution, High Court directed that pollution certificates of vehicles be monitored regularly and the vehicle which do not have certificate shall be booked under law. Court also directed for inspection of the ‘Pollution Checking Centers’ to find out as to whether these centers are functioning properly or not.
“Status report shall be filed by PCB to indicate number of inspections of the pollution checking centers”, DB directed.
Earlier, court directed the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir to ensure that ‘pollution under control’ certificate for vehicles beyond 15 years of age shall be granted only if pollution parameters are within control.
