Srinagar, Oct 15: The Division Bench of High Court today sought information from the Government regarding the money sanctioned and work carried out on National Highway so far.
The direction was passed after the counsel appearing for petitioners submitted before the court that people are facing lot of difficulties while commuting on National Highway as the condition of the road is in dilapidated condition.
On the other hand State counsel refuted the allegation, but the counsel for petitioner submitted before the Division Bench of Chief Justice N P Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan to send any lawyer as Commissioner to find out the position on spot.
Bench during the proceedings observed: “We visited Shopian and saw the road condition personally. We know from personal experience. Mere words are not sufficient, there should be action”, said the bench.
The court is dealing with a PIL wherein it is stated that from Banihal to Srinagar, the construction and development of the modernized four lane Express way has been allotted to a company, Ramky Infrastructure Limited with MoU to construct the road from Banihal to Srinagar and till such construction is complete they had to maintain this portion of the Highway.
It is alleged that neither the company nor the Border Road Organization and R&B is making the repairs of the road for the last 6 years. This has led to dilapidated condition of the Highway resulting in damage to vehicles, physical and mental pain to public at large besides loss of precious lives due to accidents.
