HC seeks police response to petition against Cong MLA

SRINAGAR, June 6: High Court has directed the police to file response to the petition filed against Congress leader and MLA Bandipora Usman Majid for his involvement in killing of a person namely Abdul Khaliq Wani.
The petition has been filed by victim’s family for seeking direction upon the police authorities to carry out a proper and fair investigation by constituting a Special Investigation Team into the killing of Khaliq Wani.
The Court of Justice Sudhakar Ramalingam after hearing the counsel P Imroz issued notice to the authorities including Usman Majid for filing of response in opposition to what has been submitted in the petition by or before July 11.
On 6 June 1993 according to the petitioner MLA Bandipora Usman Majeed, then a member of the counter-insurgency force, Ikhwan, and other accused Ikhwan, shot dead Abdul Khaliq Wani, resident of Madwan, Hajin, Bandipora District, for his association with the Jamaat-e-Islami and  the incident  was witnessed by the family members of the victim and  police filed a FIR against unidentified gunmen into the killing of Khaliq Wani.
