JAMMU, Nov 9: In a major development, State High Court has started the first e-court in Jammu wing.
The e-court was started in the Chief Justice’s court and was presided over by Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar Shukla.
It is pertinent to mention here that the first ever e-court in the State was inaugurated by Chief Justice in Srinagar wing of the High Court on September 22, 2017.
The e-court is a paperless court in which the files come up before the Judges in digital form and not in physical form by using modem gadgets like interactive touch screens. This not only saves time during hearing of the cases but is also very helpful to the lawyers who while arguing the cases before the e-court can refer the pleadings and the documents with great precision.
With the digital movement gaining momentum across the country, the High Court of J&K has joined league of few High Courts where paperless courts are working. Ever since Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed has taken over as the Chief Justice, the High Court of J&K has taken many strides in technology adoption in judicial processes and many projects have been started in that direction.
One such ambitious project is digitization of the whole record of the High Court which was started in August 2017 in Srinagar wing and in October 2017 in Jammu wing. Around 325 crore pages of judicial record are to be digitized and preserved for the progeny.
