JAMMU, Sept 12: A Head Constable of State Police was arrested for tampering the record in an accident case.
Police spokesman said that on February 7, 2009 a report was received at Police Station Gandhi Nagar that a motorcycle bearing registration No.5941/JK02AB met with an accident. Upon this, case FIR No. 46/2009 under Section 279/337/RPC was registered and investigation entrusted to Head Constable Rehmat Ullah, who during the course of investigation entered into conspiracy and changed the registration number of the accidental motor cycle to 5941-JK02AD.
The IO with criminal intention and deceitful dishonest manner demanded Rs 60,000 from the accused party Parvinder Singh, son of Pritam Singh of Khaspur, Arnia, whose motor cycle bearing number 5941/JK02AB was involved in the accident, for showing favour to him by tampering the number of the vehicle.
The final deal was struck at Rs 30,000 out of which Rs 25,000 was paid to HC Rehmat Ullah as illegal gratification and Rs 5000 were given to Laxmi Kumar, son of Daya Ram of Netar Kutian Barnai, who was the owner of the motor Cycle No.5941/JK02AD falsely implicated in the case.
On being repeatedly harassed despite payment of illegal gratification, Parvinder Singh approached Vigilance Organization with a complaint, which was endorsed to District Police Jammu. The then DySP Hqrs Jammu was nominated as enquiry officer and during the course of investigation it was established that HC Rehmat Ullah tampered with the registration number of the motorcycle.
Upon this, a case under Section 420/467/ 468/ 471 /120-B RPC was registered at Police Station Pacca Danga and enquiry was entrusted to the then SP Hqrs Jammu. During the course of investigation necessary record was seized and sent to FSL Jammu for expert opinion during which it was established that the then IO had tempered the record.
Accordingly, HC Rehmat Ullah, presently posted in Police Station City was arrested and lodged in Police Station Pacca Danga.
