Head Teacher booked for misappropriation of funds

UDHAMPUR, May 19: Head teacher of Government Middle School Kud has been booked for misappropriation of funds.
The misappropriations came to light during a surprise visit to the school by Chief Education Officer Udhampur, Balbir Singh who found that the payments on account of school expenditures for the last five years had been deposited by the Head Teacher Suram Chand into his personal account.
Taking all the cash books in his custody, the CEO directed ZEO Chenani to stop salary of the Head Teacher with immediate effect till further inquiry. The accused Head Teacher has been directed to report the office of the CEO on May 20.
The ZEO has also been taken to task for the lapse committed under his nose and asked to explain his position.
During the surprise visit, Head Teacher Suram Chand was on casual leave while local Sarpanch and other prominent persons of the area complained to the CEO that a number of teachers of the school used to remain absent by allegedly managing Casual Leave Account fraudently.
Later, the CEO also visited the Government Higher Secondary School Kud where Principal and three Lecturers were on casual leave despite shortage of teachers there. The CEO warned Incharge Principal over the issue and also took the English teacher to task for poor performance of Class 9th and 10th students in the subject.
