Kathua, Nov 28: Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kootah organised a function with significant initiative aimed at addressing the pressing health concern of hypertension in the district, with the formal launch of an outreach program in collaboration with TATA Power Ltd., through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The event, attended by key dignitaries and local residents, showcased a proactive approach to capturing the prevalence of hypertension among individuals aged 18 and above in district Kathua. Dr. Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner of Kathua, addressed the gathering, highlighting the alarming statistic that 30 percent of the population suffers from hypertension-related issues.
He emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Through this outreach program, we aim to gather crucial data via door-to-door visits, ensuring real-time uploading of findings. This will play a vital role in identifying the extent of hypertension in our community.”
As part of the initiative, Blood Pressure (BP) apparatus along with necessary adapters were distributed to Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), who will conduct door-to-door outreach to facilitate screening.
As per the briefing of Dr. Vijay Raina, CMO Kathua the campaign is set to continue until February 2025, with an ambitious goal of providing screening coverage for approximately 210,000 residents. Those diagnosed with hypertension will receive appropriate referrals and medication as needed, ensuring a comprehensive approach to managing this serious health concern. The outreach program represents a collaborative effort to improve community health and well-being, demonstrating a commitment to fighting hypertension and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Kathua.
