JAMMU, May 20:  It may sound incredible to many, but it’s true that Inquiry Committee  constituted by Director Health Services Jammu Dr Madhu Khullar to probe into the circumstances which led to the death of 18-year-old boy Shariq Shahdab (PDP MLA’s nephew) in Rajouri Hospital on May 1, 2013, has given clean chit to both the doctors performing surgery and providing anesthesia.
The departmental inquiry committee led by Dr Y P Sharma (Dy Director Heath) and comprising other members, Dr Manish Sharma (ENT), Dr Arun Arora (Anesthesia), Dr K K Gupta (Physician) and Dr Rakesh Gupta (Sr. Surgeon) while giving clean chit to Dr Bashir Khan (Minister’s brother) and Dr Vijay Gupta (From ENT) of Rajouri Hospital,  concluded that both the doctors provided adequate standard treatment and managed the patient as per recommended protocol and ‘no lapse’ on the part of any staff member of the hospital could be found.
The inquiry panel observed that while visiting operation theatre, all the equipment and machinery found functioning properly. System of prints of cardiac monitor was not available so, no record of anesthesia could be taken. It also opined that decision to do septoplasty under general anesthesia was justified and technically sound. The panel also concluded that all the steps of anesthesia were adequate and correct.
The probe panel further  opined that  in this case, anaphylaxis of drugs could have led to cardiac arrest and that PCR given was affective and adequate. It said that resuscitative measures for the cardiac arrest were adequate and for effective period and no lapse was found on the part of doctors. The patient was properly examined and adequate investigations were done. PAC and pre-operative anesthesia were found to be within normal limits. CPR was also as per standard guidelines, the committee concluded.
