Health Min Azad meets New Zealand counterpart on Food Safety

NEW DELHI, Oct 23: A bilateral meeting between Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Kate Wilkinson, New Zealand’s Minister of Conservation and Food Safety was held here today to strengthen cooperation in food safety.

In his welcome address, Mr Azad said India is a member of World Trade Organization (WTO) and committed to comply with the Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary Standards (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreements, a Health Ministry statement said.

The representatives of the New Zealand High Commission had met the Chairperson, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on September 27, it informed.

In line with that discussion, India would await the draft MoU agreement to strengthen cooperation in the area of Food Safety and inspections for mutual benefit, it added.

Mr Azad was assisted by senior officers of his Ministry in the bilateral meeting, it said. (UNI)
