Healthcare staff asked not to take leaves during G20 event

SRINAGAR, May 19: Government Medical College (GMC) and Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar have issued directives to their staff, instructing them not to take leaves during the upcoming G20 event scheduled in the city, while the authorities said that the healthcare arrangements have been significantly enhanced ahead of the event.
In a circular issued by the Additional Director of SKIMS, it was notified that all staff members, including resident doctors and both gazetted and non-gazetted personnel, should not avail any kind of leave from May 22 to May 26. Employees residing on the SKIMS Campus have also been prohibited from leaving the premises during the specified period without prior permission.
Similarly, GMC Srinagar has directed the Heads of Departments and Medical Superintendents of GMC Srinagar and its Associated Hospitals not to entertain any leave requests from staff during the G20 summit event from May 20 to May 25, except in cases of emergencies.
The aim of this directive, according to officials, is to ensure round-the-clock availability of medical services during the event. Heads of Departments and Medical Superintendents have also been instructed to coordinate with the Government Kashmir Nursing Home Administration to provide specialist care and assistance when required.
To further prepare for the G20 event, the Directorate of Health Services (DHSK) has established a control room at the divisional level and special clinics while comprehensive healthcare arrangements have also been made, the hospitals along the 47-kilometre Srinagar-Gulmarg highway has been upgraded.
As per officials, the necessary equipment and machinery have been installed to handle any emergencies, while the key hospitals such as Sub District Hospital Magam, SDH Tangmarg, and Primary Health Centre Gulmarg have undergone upgrades and are now equipped with the latest medical facilities to ensure better healthcare services for the delegates.
The DHSK has also set up a round-the-clock control room at the Chief Medical Office Srinagar, Old Secretariat. The officials said that the control room will monitor all healthcare-related activities and arrangements for the G20 events across the valley.
Special clinics have been established at important locations, and doctors have been trained in basic life support to provide the best possible healthcare facilities during the event, officials said.
