JAMMU, Aug 2: Pakistan army tonight resorted to heavy firing on forward Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) at Krishna Ghati, Balakote, Pallanwalla and Sabjian sectors in Poonch and Jammu districts while the Rangers violated ceasefire on the International Border (IB) last night in RS Pura sector, firing two mortar bombs targeting the BSF posts.
Official reports said Pakistan Army started heavy firing tonight at about 10 pm targeting half a dozen forward posts of the Army in Krishna Ghati, Balakote and Sabjian along the LoC in Poonch district violating ceasefire. Indian side retaliated effectively as there was an attempt by a group of four to five militants to infiltrate into the Indian territory under the covering firing by the Pakistan army in Krishna Ghati.
Heavy exchanges continued till midnight tonight.
However, the troops hadn’t allowed the militants to infiltrate. Also, there were no reports of any casualties or damage on the Indian side in Pakistan firing.
Sources said the infiltration attempt by the militants under covering firing was clearly visible in Krishna Ghati sector while in other sectors, there was ceasefire violation only. Indian troops, who were maintaining high alert on the LoC, gave an effective reply to Pakistan and foiled the infiltration attempt, they added.
Meanwhile, violating the ceasefire yet again, Pakistani Rangers resorted to firing of mortar bombs on border out posts along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector late last night.
“Pakistan Rangers resorted to firing of two mortar bombs on BoPs along IB in R S Pura sector around 10.40 pm last night between Korotana Khurd and Nai Basti in RS Pura sector”, official sources said.
BSF troops guarding the borderline did not retaliate, they said.
There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the Pakistani shelling.
Police parties headed by SHO RS Pura police station Inspector Bushan Manhas visited the affected villages to restore confidence among the people.
This is second ceasefire violation along the IB in 12 hours.
Yesterday, Pakistani Rangers violated the ceasefire by resorting to small arms firing and mortar shelling on 3 BoPs along the IB in Akhnoor sector in Jammu district, drawing retaliation from the BSF.
Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire four times  on July 29 and July 30 along the Line of Control (LoC).
There have been three incidents of sniper attacks by Pakistani troops along the LoC in July. An Army jawan was killed in Poonch and two BSF jawans were killed in similar incidents along the LoC in Kashmir valley.
There have been 18 ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border in July in which four persons, including three jawans, were killed and 14 others injured.
