* Many structures damaged, vehicles washed away

JAMMU, Aug 21: Heavy rain and flash flood during early hours today again wreaked havoc in Janipur, Ploura, Patoli, Toph Shekhanian, Bathindi and many other localities of Jammu city as flood water entered many houses, shops and caused extensive damage to roads, lanes and other structures.
Heavy rain during last mid night in Jammu’s northern areas again caused flash flood in Excelsior Lane, Shant Nagar, Bhawani Nagar, Naseeb Nagar, Bread Factory Lane, Ploura, Lower Roopnagar and other low lying areas of Jammu West. The Excelsior Lane was again converted into a virtual `Khud’ as stones and sand came flowing down with the flood. A huge heap of stones on Main Janipur Road near Power House and Disco Road created road blockade for several hours.

The movement of vehicles was stalled on this busy Road for some time in the morning. Later, the District Administration engaged JCBs and dumpers which took about two hours two clear the road and restore traffic during morning hours. The traffic police authorities diverted the vehicles to Ploura and Sarwal-Rehari side.
The locals of Janipur area said that at around 3 am flash flood was noticed in Excelsior Lane, Bhawani Nagar ( Khir Bhawani Temple Lane) and Doordarshan Lane as it was raining heavily over night. The water entered many houses, washed away about half a dozen four wheelers/ cars and about a dozen bikes/ scooties parked in the main lane. There was about 3 ft level of flood water in Excelsior Lane. Some people moved to the roof top of their houses in view of flood. The flood water caused extensive damage to their property.
The recently repaired Excelsior Lane by the ERA and other agencies again suffered massive damage. The deep drains on two sides of the main lane was damaged at several places. The main Bread Factory Road connecting Janipur with Ploura was also washed away at many places due to flash flood. The people residing in adjoining Shant Nagar, Naseeb Nagar, Toph Sher Khanian and Ploura localities also suffered damages to their properties.
Reports from Bathindi, Usman Colony, Channi Rama, Pamposh Colony, Narwal Balla, Rajiv Nagar, Gorkha Nagar, Kalka Colony, Gangyal and Nanak Nagar said that flood water of Nallahas entered many houses, damaged roads and lanes. Even the walls of several houses were collapsed. Large portion of the wall of a Madrasa at Bathindi was also collapsed. At Kalka Nagar, four houses suffered extensive damage. Even PHE pipes were broken with the flood.
The teams of officers from District Administration along with concerned SDMs paid visit to these areas and reviewed situation. The power supply to many areas has also been affected as some electric poles were uprooted with flash flood.
The rain during early hours today created water logging at Jewel Chowk, Canal Road and many other low lying areas. This also disrupted the movement of smooth traffic in Jammu areas. With the rain, a sharp fall in the temperature has been witnessed in Jammu.
