Heavy rainfall, hailstorm hits normal life in Bani

Power, water supply hit, dozens of houses damaged

KATHUA, May 21: The normal life has been completely hit in the hilly areas of Bani and Lohi Malhar of Kathua district due to last night’s hailstorm and heavy rainfall.
As per reports, due to heavy rainfall and hailstorm in hilly areas of Bani and Lohi Malhar over a dozen houses were damaged and normal life was completely hit as power and water supply remained affected in these areas.
More than a dozen Kaccha houses were also damaged in heavy rainfall. Half dozen houses belonging to Gulshan Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Mahinder Pal, Amarnath, Shanker Dass and Ram Kumar residents of village Challa and Kachir were completely damaged in rainfall. There is no loss of human beings or animals but heavy loss of property and standing crops. The orchardist also faced huge loss as the fruit bearing trees were damaged while some were totally uprooted. The power supply in hilly areas was also snapped due to uprooting of poles.
The Power Development Department is on the job to rest- ore power supply. But some poles are damaged and it will take some time to restore power supply, said a PDD engineer of the area. The normal life is badly hit in lower areas due to power failure and disruption of water supply.
