SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Heavy rains lashed Kashmir today with Weatherman forecasting more rains for the next two days and the administration has issued a weather advisory asking people to stay away from water bodies.
Heavy rains lashed Kashmir today leading to drop in temperatures and rise in the water level of the water bodies in the Valley.
In view of the forecast of more rains across the region in next two days, the district Administration Srinagar today issued an advisory to people living in the district, especially to those living along water bodies in wake of rain forecast by Indian Meteorological Department till next two days.
“In view of the inclement weather with forecast of rainfall from 18th-20th April by the Indian Meteorological department (IMD) Srinagar Station, the people of the district in general, and those residing on the left and right banks of River Jhelum its tributaries and Nallahs in particular are advised to refrain from venturing in and around these water bodies and limit their activities till the improvement of weather,” read the advisory.
“Further, the Tourists, local Shikara Wallas, Sand Miners and Boat Crossing Points for travel at Dal Lake and River Jhelum and other water bodies shall not attempt to cross before verifying the condition and situation of these water bodies.”

The Weather Department here has predicted “widespread light to moderate rain and thunders” on April 18 and 19.
“On April 18-19, generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and light snow over higher reaches is expected at most places with thunder/lightning during April 18 evening to April 19 late evening/night,” the official said.
He said on weekend, light rain is expected at scattered places while from April 21-25, generally dry weather is expected but at the same time afternoon thundershower activity at isolated places can’t be ruled out.
“Generally cloudy weather with light rain coupled with thunder has been forecast at many places from April 26 to 27”.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of 12.5°C against 9.4°C the previous night and it was 4.6°C above normal for the city for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of 9.6°C against 6.2°C the previous night and it was 3.1°C above normal for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.2°C against 2.1°C the previous night and it was 3.8°C above normal for the resort.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 11.2°C against 7.0°C the previous night and it was 4.7°C above normal.
Kupwara town recorded a low of 10.9°C against 7.0°C the previous night and it was 4.1°C above normal there.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.2°C against 0.9°C the previous night and it was below normal by 0.9°C for the skiing resort.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 17.7 degree Celsius temperature today which was 3.4 degree Celsius below normal for the city for this time of the year.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 15.5 degree Celsius which is 5.2 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 12.7 degree Celsius which is 5.5 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
Kupwara recorded a maximum of 14.5 degree Celsius which is 7.2 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
Kokernag recorded a maximum of 15.5 degree Celsius which is 3.8 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 6.4 degree Celsius which is 4.3 degree Celsius below normal for the place during this time of the year.
