02TOKYO, Jan 1: Forty flights have been canceled due to heavy snowfall in northern Japan on Tuesday, Japanese news channel STVnews reported.
The snowfall that struck Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido led to the cancellation of 40 flights at New Chitose Airport, disrupting connections between Hokkaido and Tokyo, Osaka, and central regions.
Snowfall is expected to continue until the morning of New Year’s Day. Those unable to travel to their families for the New Year’s celebrations may have to ring in the holiday at hotels or at the airport.
