3-month long prog on Innovation, Incubation, Training begins

JAMMU, Jan 16: Higher Education Department and Government College for Women Parade in collaboration with Gujarat Grassroots Innovation and Augmentation Network (GIAN) today launched three-month long programme on “Innovation, Incubation and Training”-IIT 2021 (Shaping the young minds).
GIAN is India’s sustainable first technology incubator focused on incubating and commercializing grassroots innovations. The objective of this programme is to involve the youth in contributing towards scientific advancement through innovative ideas. The shortlisted innovative ideas, innovations and proof of concepts will get opportunity to receive intensive mentoring sessions by GIAN.
The inaugural function of the programme followed by a day-long orientation workshop was held at Convention Centre, Canal Road. Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Talat Parvez Rohella said, “Higher Education Department is working for creation of knowledge through research and creation of wealth through innovation and entrepreneurship”,
Stating that J&K is taking lead in implementation of all interventions of New Education Policy-2020, he said, “we are focusing on digital intervention through smart classroom, virtual labs, research ecosystem in colleges and integrating professional and vocational education along with regular degree programmes so that colleges emerge as multi-disciplinary institutions of higher learning with a focus to impart skills to youth for establishing as service providers or entrepreneurs in order to contribute towards positioning India as a 5 trillion economy by 2023 as per the vision plan of Prime Minister”.
Special invitees included Prof Anil K Gupta, Founder of Honey Bee Network, SRISTI, NIF & GIAN; Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu; Dr R Ramanthan, Mission Director, Atal Innovation mission; Dr Abhay Jere, CIO, MHRD Innovation Cell; Bishwajit Kumar Singh, Administrative Secretary to Government, School Education Department; Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary, HED; Prof. M.Y Peerzada, Director Colleges; Prof(Dr) S P Sarswat, Principal, GCW Parade Ground, Jammu; Dev Kumar, Manager, SIDBI; Dr Anamika Dey, CEO, GIAN India; Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner, IPP; the national & State Awardee Grassroots Innovators & Entrepreneurs-Dharambir Kamboj, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Rafiq Ahmad, Towseef Ahmad Malik and student innovators Juspreet Kour, Lata Motan and internationally acclaimed child prodigy Onkar Singh.
Principals of various Degree Colleges of J&K, Innovation Ambassadors, Coordinators and students from J&K participated in the workshop.
Shivani Bajpai, Dev Kumar, Irtif Lone, Dharambir Kamboj, Vikrant Rana, Dr Preeti Dubey, Dr Alpana Vohra, Dr Shivani Suri and Dr Iesha Sharma were also present on the occasion.
