Heritage tour to Buddhist Site of Ambaran organized

JAMMU, Mar 4: The Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Jammu here today organized a heritage tour to the ancient Buddhist Site at Ambaran near Akhnoor in collaboration with INTACH Jammu Chapter.
Well-known art historian Dr. Lalit Gupta, the chief guest explained in detail to students and scholars the historic and cultural importance of the ancient monastic complex of Ambran.
Professor Shohab Inayat Malik HoD, Department of Buddhist Studies and Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Faculty, Department of Buddhist studies, also accompanied the students and scholars to the heritage visit along with faculty members.
The students also visited Akhnoor Fort and Jia Pota Ghat, the site of coronation of Maharaja Gulab Singh by Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1822.
Prof. Inayat Malik exhorted the students, and scholars to visit more Buddhist sites that exist in J&K to understand the development of Buddhism and its historical and philosophical relevance.
