India lifted the third under-19 World Cup in Australia after a brilliant inning in which the rival team had to concede the defeat by six wickets. Captain Unmukt played the real captain’s inning scoring 111 runs and remaining unbeaten. He was matched equally by his partner glovesman Smit, the two who together led India to victory. The grit and determination shown by the Indian youngsters will remain inspiration to millions of our youth who watched each movement, each ball and each stroke in the match with rapt attention. The joy and excitement of the Indian spectators knew no bounds when with the last run made, they rushed from galleries onto the ground to hug, shake hands and rub shoulders with their victorious fans on the ground. It was a scene of joy to be seen to be enjoyed. The victory has confirmed the thinking that Indian cricket has the potential to remain at the top in all conditions and circumstances. Taken along with the victory of the Indian team in the Hyderabad test, all that should happen is that India should be the holder of ashes year after year. Our youngsters have the skill and the will they will do it. Bravo to our heroes at Townsville.
As our fabulous cricketers are making name and fame and the world of cricket is recognizing India as one of the top teams, it is important that our youngsters on the field and the managers in dressing rooms do everything possible to maintain the pristine spirit and status of the great game. Of late, some cricket playing teams outside the country have brought slur to their name by being proved involved in match fixing. The team spirit demonstrated by our youngsters that led them to victory has raised our prestige high in the eyes of cricket fans all over the world. This treasure has to be preserved and sustained.
