Srinagar, Feb 27: Security forces today arrested a militant associate of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit in Baramulla district and busted a militant hideout in Bandipora district and recovered arms and ammunition.
An official said that police along with security forces arrested an associate linked with LeT and recovered incriminating materials and ammunition from his possession in Baramulla.
He said that on a specific input of the militant movement in Pattan area, a joint naka was established at Chinar Crossing Pattan by Baramulla Police, 2nd Bn SSB and Army’s 29 RR. “During naka checking suspicious movement of one person coming towards naka point by foot was observed. While seeing police party and security forces, the suspect person tried to flee from the spot but alert naka party apprehended him tactfully,” he said.
The official said that during the preliminary questioning, he was identified as Mehrajuddin Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, resident of Mundyari Pattan.
“During his search, one live hand grenade was recovered from his possession. In this regard, a case under sections UA (P) and Arms Act has been registered in Police Station Pattan and investigation taken up,” he said.
Meanwhile, security forces today busted an old militant hideout in Bandipora district and recovered arms and ammunition.
An official said that in a joint operation of Bandipora Police,14RR and 3rd battalion of CRPF based on specific input a militant hideout was busted in the orchards of the general area of Ayathmullah in Bandipora district.
He said in the hideout one UBGL grenade launcher, 7 UBGL grenades, 95 rounds of ammunition, one bag besides some of the old and rusted items were recovered. A case has been registered and investigation launched.
