High-level NSCS Committee reviews border management along IB

JAMMU:  A high-level committee of eight senior officers and professors under the aegis of National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS ), headed by former Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, today concluded its three-day visit to Jammu frontier of BSF.

A BSF spokesman said the NSCS team visited the forward areas along the International Bolder from June 5 and this afternoon concluded its visit.     “The aim of the visit is to study and analyse the existing Border Security and Management mechanism undertaken vis-a-vis the likely threats existing on International Borders with special reference to Indo-Pak border and suggest measures and recommendations for strengthening of International Border,” said the spokesman.     He said, “during the first two days of visit on June 5-6, the delegation was briefed in detail by D K Upadhyaya  IG BSF Frontier Jammu regarding the prevailing security scenario on the Jammu IB and the border management system vis-a-vis measures undertaken by BSF to ensure foolproof security of International Border.”

He said later the high powered delegation accompanied by D K Upadhyaya, IG BSF and other senior Officers of BSF visited to Line of Control (LoC) deployment of Rajouri District, border areas of R S Pura and Kathua as well as Samba Sectors.

They said, “the team took the first hand stock of the border security and management by BSF to further strengthen border protection and domination of the existing gaps.”

The committee members also visited the tunnel site, river and Nalluh (rivulet) gaps, BOPs and re-erection of fence under construction and appreciated the alertness of BSF troops.

During the Border visit the delegation also interacted with senior civil administrative  and authorities as well as the local villagers of Kathua and Samba sectors.

Besides this, the committee noted the problems and difficulties of border population to take further their genuine issues.

“The delegation has left for Srinagar to meet Governor of J&K and will further leave for Punjab,” said the spokesman. (Agencies)
