Higher Education Deptt signs MoU with IIT Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 25: The Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir and The Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu (IIT Jammu) have entered into a MoU to collaborate in various parallels in order to help the Union Territory with the best academic resources.
Teams from both the institutions got together at the IIT Jammu campus to discuss the future of the Memorandum of Understanding and discussed the several doors of opportunities that will open for the UT’s youth as a result of this MoU.
The meeting was chaired by Prof Manoj Singh Gaur- Director, IIT Jammu and Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir.
IIT Jammu is prepared to share the state-of-art research resources and infrastructure with the UT’s educational institutions in order to enhance the quality of research in the region and work towards building a research friendly approach to higher education in Jammu and Kashmir. Experts from IIT Jammu will enhance the knowledge base of the UTs faculty and students on several fronts including but not limited to, Machine learning, big data, cloud computing.
The scope of the MoU includes academic, research, administrative, and consultancy collaborations. IIT Jammu and Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir have agreed to work together on improving faculty excellence in degree colleges of J&K, improving employability of the UTs youth and Knowledge sharing to improve the skill set of faculty members.
Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) in various disciplines such as, Engineering, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences for the existing faculty members at Degree Colleges (Engineering/ Science/ Humanities) of J&K will be organized from time to time by IIT Jammu to improve the knowledge and skill set of the faculty from the region and help them with the best practices in academia coupled with an exposure to global developments in teaching excellence. Faculty members from the UT will also be encouraged to enroll in Post Graduate programmes offered by IIT Jammu after following the due procedure for admissions.
IIT Jammu will also help in reducing the skill gap amongst the passing out students of the Degree Colleges of J&K and work actively towards improving employability by providing hands on training programmes, research assignments while mentoring them to become industry ready professionals.
