SRINAGAR, Apr 3: The Government Higher Secondary school in Teetwal lacks the necessary infrastructure even as the school is operating out of three rooms as well as some space provided by erecting a temporary shed.
The students as well as the locals said that even as they were living a life of ease and betterment post ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the administration has so far failed in putting in place the required infrastructure for the school building.
Rukhsar Manzoor, a class 9 student said that with their school situated just on the LoC their studies used to remain disturbed due to frequent shelling. However, now things are quite better. “We can study without any disturbance, but what we lack is the required infrastructure,” she said.
She said that the authorities should, without any delay, construct a new building for the school. “Where we study is temporary and whenever it rains, sitting there becomes difficult and even in summers, when the temperature rises, we do feel the heat,” she said.
Another student, Syed Iqra also lauded both India as well as Pakistan for putting an end to the shelling and adhering to the ceasefire along the LoC and said that the same has been quite beneficial for them.
However, she said that the school building is old and there is a need for carrying out the necessary repairs. “Constructing a new building for the school would have been great,” she said.
An elderly local who identified himself as Syed Akbar Shah said that there is no discipline within the school as the school also lacks the necessary staff.
“The people living here are admitting their children to the army school rather than sending them to the Government school, nobody is really bothered about it,” he said.
The Principal of the school, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, said that the classrooms are operating from a fabricated structure and that a temporary structure was put in place when the earthquake struck.
“There are currently 3 rooms in the pucca building and there are smart room, office and ICT lab. The classrooms are operating in a fabricated structure. In this regard, I have written to the SAMAGRA. We are planning about it so that the school gets a good building. We are on it,” he said.
