AKHNOOR, May 10: A monthly meeting of Block Congress Committee, Akhnoor was held here today under the chairmanship of local MLA and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister exhorted upon the workers to work for strengthening the party at the grass root level and highlighting the programmes and policies of the Congress Party. He stressed the need for maintaining close coordination between public, workers and administration so that benefits of various programmes of the Government reach out to the needy at the grass root level. He said it is endeavour of the Congress Party to uplift the weaker sections of the society, maintaining equality and help the needy so that everyone lives a dignified life.
He said Congress Party has rich history of serving the country for longest stint and has vast experience about addressing the problems of people, adding that during the past over five decades the country has touched new heights under the Congress regimes. He asked the workers to maintain and carry on the high traditions set by the party stalwarts like Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and work for the welfare of the poor and needy.
Expressing happiness over the larger participation of voters in the current Parliament Elections, the Minister said that this is good sign for the healthy democracy. He said that awareness is must for the voters to understand the importance of elections.
Appealing the workers to maintain peace and communal harmony, the Minister said that peace is must for development and progress of the country and everyone must contribute for maintaining it.
Regarding development process in Akhnoor, the Minister maintained that election process is be completed in next some days and routine development process will continue after that. He said the administration is maintaining all essential services in routine and there is no such problem in Akhnoor or anywhere. He said people can highlight their problems before the authorities which is otherwise responsive and accountable to attend their grievances, he added.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Congress Block President, Ram Saran Bhagat, Congress Working President, Baldev Sharma, Subash Langer, leaders of Youth Congress of Akhnoor.
