Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, are stranded on the highway. Official sources said here today that heavy rain and cloud burst triggered landslides at several places on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway forcing authorities to suspend traffic. Landslides were reported on both sides of the Zojilla tunnel.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, has already pressed into service sophisticated machine and men to clear the landslides and put the highway through.
All the stranded vehicles will be cleared first before allowing fresh traffic as and when traffic will be resumed on the highway, they said.
