Highway connecting Ladakh with Kashmir reopens

SRINAGAR :  The national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the Kashmir valley, was put through after the snow accumulated at different places was  cleared.
All the vehicles stranded on both sides of the Zojila pass on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway were cleared till last evening.
Today normal vehicular traffic was allowed from both sides as per schedule already announced to avoid any traffic jam, official sources said.
The highway, lifeline to Ladakh was closed on April 16 due to heavy snowfall between Sonamarg-Zojila.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the highway.
The highway was reopened only on April 6 after remaining closed since December last year due to snowfall. (AGENCIES)
