Hill Councils of Leh, Kargil celebrate Independence Day with patriotic zeal

LEH/KARGIL, Aug 16: The Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic zeal in both the districts of Ladakh Union Territory with Chief Executive Councillors (CECs) of Hill Councils unfurling the National Flag at the main events.
LEH: Chairman/CEC of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Advocate Tashi Gyalson ceremoniously hoisted the National Flag at the Council Secretariat. In his address, he said, “as we celebrate 78 years of India’s independence, let us honor the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and renew our commitment to the values of liberty, unity and progress”.
“Their courage has paved the way for the India we cherish today. May we continue to strive towards building a brighter and more inclusive future for all”, he further said.
The ceremony was attended by Dy Chairman Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillor for Minority Affairs Ghulam Mehdi; Executive Councillor for Rural Development Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; Executive Councillor for Agriculture Stanzin Chosphel; Deputy Commissioner/ CEO LAHDC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve and other dignitaries.
KARGIL: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon hoisted the National Flag at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang and took the salute at the march past.
Member of Parliament Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan; Executive Councilor, Kacho Mohammad Feroz; DC/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse; SSP Kargil, Shree Ram R; Brigadier Prateek Parshar Commander 121 Brig and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
In his address, the CEC recalled the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their lives for the country. “We all must develop the spirit of self-sacrifice and love for the sake of the country’s development and prosperity”, he said, adding “we must uphold the principles of democracy and equality in our country and society”.
The CEC said that LAHDC Kargil is leaving no stone unturned for the welfare of the people and have prioritized the projects that are important for public welfare and visible results are also seen in this direction.
On the occasion, the students of different schools presented cultural program cum skit competition that enthralled the audience.
