Himachal witnesses spell of snowfall and intermittent rains

SHIMLA : The tribal belt and the higher mountain passes of Himachal Pradesh witnessed another spell of moderate snowfall while the mid and lower hills experienced intermittent rains, causing a marginal fall in day temperature.

Keylong and Kalpa recorded 18 cm and 12 cm of snow respectively while Sangla, Chitkul, Pin Parvati valley, Pangi, Darcha and Koksar received 15 to 20 cm of snow.

Narkanda, Khara-Patthar, Kufri, Theog and other higher hills also received 10 cm to 15 cm of snow.

The key tourist destination of Manali was wettest in the region with 19.4 mm rains while Jubbal and Kotkhai had 15 mm rains, followed by Bhuntar 10 mm and 9 mm rainfall each in Sunnibajji, Mashobra-Bijahi, Nurpur and Shimla.

Baldwara and Kahu recorded 7 mm rainfall while Jhandutta, Berthin, Bhuntar, Kandaghat and Jubbarhatti had 5 mm each.

Link roads in tribal areas were blocked due to fresh snowfall but major national and state highways were open for vehicular traffic.

However, the minimum temperature rose by few notches in tribal areas and Keylong and Kalpa recorded a low of -5.3 degree Celsius, followed by  Manali 3.4 degree Celsius, Shimla (4.5 degree Celsius), Solan (7 degree Celsius), Dharamsala (7.8 degree Celsius), Bhuntar and Una (10.2 degree Celsius), Palampur (10.5 degree Celsius), Sundernagar (11.2 degree Celsius) and Nahan (12.7 degree Celsius).

Una was hottest during the day with maximum temperature at 24.6 degree Celsius while Sundernagar and Nahan recorded a high of  21 degree Celsius and 19 degree Celsius respectively.

The maximum temperature recorded at Solan was 18.5 degree Celsius, Dharamshala 15.4 degree Celsius, Shimla 14.1 degree Celsius, Bhunter 13.5 degree Celsius, Manali 11 degree Celsius and Kalpa -0.2 degree Celsius.

The local MeT office has predicted more rain and snow in the region over the next six days due to western disturbances. (AGENCIES)
