NEW DELHI, Sept 5:
A wide and diverse range of movies, including mainstream releases, documentaries and shorts will be showcased in The Himalayan Film Festival (THFF) beginning in Ladakh from September 29.
The second edition of the fest, which made a successful debut in 2021, is being organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations and the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.
The curtains will come down on the five-day festival on October 3.Set in the picturesque Leh, the largest city of Ladakh, THFF aims to highlight the talent of Himalayan filmmakers and has lined up a variety of events and activities that will entertain and inspire all stakeholders from the auteurs to the movie buffs.
Included in the packed schedule is a Screenwriters Lab, Short Film Competition, Photography Workshop, and Masterclasses led by respected professionals from the Indian film industry.
In addition, there will be film screenings and the presence of renowned filmmakers and actors sharing their knowledge and experiences through discussions and masterclasses.
Padma Angmo, Commissioner/Secretary, Information, Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh, noted that the event received a satisfactory response during the inaugural edition in 2021.
The main objective for holding the festival is to provide a platform for local Ladakhi filmmakers to showcase their films, support their talent, enhance their skills, and connect them with industry experts and the market, Angmo said.
Despite being a small community, Ladakh has an active and creative film industry, the official pointed out.”The hope is that local filmmakers will benefit from networking with established filmmakers from other parts of the country and that Ladakh will be recognised as a filmmaking destination, attracting filmmakers from all over the world who can utilise the local talent in their projects,” said Angmo.
