JAMMU, Mar 29: On the third day of ongoing Natrang Theatre Festival, Gursharan Singh’s famous play ‘Band Kamre’ in Hindi was staged at Natrang Studio Theatre. The play was directed by Anil Tickoo.
The story of the play goes like this; there is a very big house which is inhabited by just two people one husband who is physically disabled and other his wife. Despite having many rooms in the house they use just one room as the wife believes that the room where someone has taken his last breath shall be kept reserved for the soul of that person. So, all the rooms are reserved for one or another relative who had died in the respective room. A turn comes in the mundane and monotonous life of the couple when ‘Raji’ niece of the wife comes to live with her as she had lost her parents. ‘Raji’ had just entered her youth and after losing her parents, she was looking for a shoulder for emotional back up, which she did not get from her aunt and uncle. As a result of this she started looking the love and sympathy from a married professor who was her father’s friend and much elder to her. But kneeling under the pressure of his wife, Professor steps back from the relationship which was so unbearable for ‘Raji’ that she committed suicide. And as the custom of the house, the only room left also is going to be reserved for the soul of ‘Raji’ resulting the couple to live rest of their life in kitchen.
Rahul Singh as ‘Husband’ and Sajra Qadir as ‘Wife’, both gave remarkable performance. They were equally supported by Ashwani Bali as ‘Professor’ and Anita Dhar as ‘Raji’. Lights were designed and operated by Anil Tickoo while music was scored by Uplaksh Singh Kotwal. Mohd Yaseen coordinated the show and the presentations were done by Neeraj Kant.
