Srinagar, Sept 9: A district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was among two militants killed while two others are trapped in a security cordon and militants shot dead a police man in Anantnag town of South Kashmir today.

A district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was killed in an encounter with security forces in North Kashmir’s Sopore area of Baramulla district today.
Acting on a specific information regarding the presence of militants in the area, Sopore Police along with 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 179 and 92 Battalions of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Dangerpora Reben area of Sopore.
During the search operation, militants hiding in the area fired upon the joint search party and the fire was retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which one militant was killed. He has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Sheikh alias Shabir, district commander of HM, resident of Kachloo Qaziabad, Handwara. He was earlier affiliated with JeM. One AK rifle, 2 AK magazines, 1 grenade, 23 AK rounds and a pouch was recovered from the encounter site.
Police said that he was involved in many anti social, anti national and criminal activities. He was involved in the killing of one Shahnaz Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Super-Naghama in which a case FIR number 10/2017 under Section 302 RPC, 7/27 Act stands registered in Police Station Kralgund. He was also involved in convoy attacks on security forces on Baramulla-Handwara Highway. He was the chief coordinator between JeM and HM in North Kashmir.
And a militant has been killed in a gun battle at Imam Sahib area of Shopian district this evening while two militants are trapped in a house.
Two to three militants attacked an Army vehicle in between Barbugh and Imam Sahib area this evening. The Army retaliated ensuing a gun battle. In the Initial exchange of gun fight, a militant was killed and two other managed to flee into the village and they have been corned there. The militant has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Lashkar of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit resident of Barbugh.
Security forces have strengthened the cordon around the village so that the militants don’t manage to flee the area.
A 14-year old girl was injured in the firing and she has been identified as Khusboo Jan daughter of Fayaz Ahmad Wagay. A resident of Harmain, the girl was immediately shifted to nearby hospital where from she was referred to Srinagar Hospital for specialised treatment.
In the meantime, Army and Police today launched a major operation in 29 villages of Shopian and Kulgam districts to flush out the militants. The village where searches were conducted include Kader, Dardkote, Alhirpur, Khee Jogipura, Avhotu, Dangam, Wangam, Renitpura, Matribugh, Zaipura, Partapura, Nanga Chek, Shahpura and Rambhama.
A cop was killed in a militant attack in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Militants attacked a police party near General Bus Stand Anantnag by firing indiscriminately upon them.
Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad was killed while constable Shabir Ahmad was injured in the firing. The area was cordoned off and a hunt was launched to nab the attackers. However, no one was arrested.
