Srinagar, June 12: Security forces today busted a militant module by arresting two militants and equal number of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.
On a specific information regarding movement of militants, a joint Naka of Handwara police and 21-RR was laid at Chogal, Handwara during which two persons identified as Mehrajudin son of Gulzar Ahmad Bhat and Obaid Shafi Malla son of Mohammad Shafi, both residents of Awantipora were caught while moving in suspicious circumstances.
The duo was asked to stop but they started running away. The naka party immediately swung into action and  caught hold of them. On their checking a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

During the investigation, they revealed that they had come to Handwara for receiving ammunition and other war like stores for their militant outfit in South Kashmir.
Cyber surveillance unit of police also tracked their social media network accounts and found some incriminating material. They were misusing Web-chats to hatch and execute the conspiracies.
Sources said that preliminary investigating revealed that these militants were a members of  an HM militant module, which would not only recruit  youth into militancy by radicalizing them over social media but also coordinate their training and arranged arms/ammunition.
On the discloser of these two militants, two more members of the module working as OGWs were arrested from Awantipora. They were identified as Shahid Ahmad Thoker and Irfan Ahmad, both residents  of Awantipora.
Sources said that both the militants are of 18 and 19 years of age and are school dropouts. “They joined militancy around two-three months ago and this time they were tasked to transport arms consignment to Tral in South Kashmir from Handwara”, they added.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Nitish Kumar said that these are the local boys and as per preliminary investigations they had come to Handwara for taking weapons and other ammunition and were returning back.
He said that Handwara Police got a tip off  that there is some suspicious movement in Chogal area of Handwara about anti-national activities. “Handwara Police and Army laid a naka and arrested two persons and large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession”, he added.
“They are from Awantipora and on questioning it was found that they have been radicalized through social media. We have shared the information about their network to Awantipora Police and they also made some arrests”, said the DIG.
