HKM Degree College, IISER organize webinar

SRINAGAR, Sept 22: HKM-Degree College Bandipora in collaboration with the Project MANAV team of Indian Institute of Science and Research (IISER)-Pune organized a webinar titled “How to Read Scientific Literature and MANAV-The Human Atlas Initiative”.
The aim of the webinar was to boost and inspire the research temperament among the students and faculty members of higher learning institutions.
The lecture was delivered by Dr Dhara Patel Lakhkar, renowned medical scientist with a PhD from New York Medical College, New York USA and presently working as a Domain Expert for project MANAV at IISER Pune.
He gave introduction about the ways of reading and understanding various kinds of research papers and explained the difference between the research and review papers and spoke about using Pubmed and other scientific literature websites for searching the quality research articles.
To keep the audience motivated and interested in the webinar, he asked various poll based questions at various points to gauge the comprehension of the audience.
In the second part of the webinar, the speaker highlighted the motive and goal of the project MANAV. MANAV-The Human Atlas Initiative is a citizen science project funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Government of India. This project aims to construct a comprehensive map of the entire human body, which will explicitly document macro to micro-level information. The speaker highlighted how the students and faculty will be part of this project.
Earlier, while welcoming the guest speaker and the participants, the Principal of the college Dr Mohammad Amin Malik interacted with the students, faculty and scholars and gave an overview on research papers, their importance and how they are different from science essays and newspaper articles.
He outlined the general perspective of scientific reading and writing and highlighted the importance of research papers.
The programme was organized by Dr Nasarul Islam and Dr Mohammad Sheikul Ashraf, while the session concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Mohammad Sheikul Ashraf.
