HM urged to check exploitation of patients in Govt hospitals

JAMMU, Mar 13: Apprising the Health Minister (HM), Lal Singh, of current situation in health sector in Jammu region, Kranti Dal has urged him to take immediate steps to check exploitation of patients in Government hospitals.
Talking to media persons here today, Pritam Sharma, State chief, Kranti Dal, said, “Government hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir need special attention and also need to be upgraded with all latest medical equipments. The nexus between doctors and private clinical laboratories and chemist shops is depriving patients to get their clinical tests conducted inside the hospital at negligible rates”.
“Inspite of availability of various clinical tests in hospital at very nominal cost, the facility is not being given to patients”, he said, adding that to get huge commission against the tests, the hospital staff was misleading the patients.
It was responsibility of hospital administration to check exploitation of patients, Pritam said and appealed to the Health Minister to actively monitor such nexus and take action against the touts and responsible staff.
Reminding Health Minister about the death of a two and half year old baby in the month of December 2014 at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGSH) due to the negligence of the then Principal ENT, Aniece Chowdhary, Pritam said that hospital administration constituted a committee to investigate the exact cause of the death but till date the parents of the deceased are waiting for justice.
Pritam further said that heart patients in Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) Jammu are facing a lot of harassment as they are being forced to buy stunts from outside the hospital with huge amount.
“In SSH Jammu a large number of agents of stunt are working, supported by the doctors are selling stunts to heart patients at the huge amount of Rs 50,000 to 80,000 which are available at the actual cost of Rs 10,000 only,” he alleged.
He appealed Health Minister to open a fair price shop in SSH Hospital on the pattern of Super Bazaar from where poor people will purchase stunts and others medicines with nominal rates.
