Srinagar, May 17: The Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department has given its approval for an increase in the number of seats for General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) at the renowned Ramzan College of Nursing in Gallander Pampore.
Previously, the nursing college had an intake capacity of 40 students. However, the department has decided to enhance the capacity to accommodate 80 students, with an addition of 20 seats and the merging of 20 seats from the Multipurpose Medical Worker (MMPHW) course, resulting in a total of 80 seats available for GNM students.
The approval from the H&ME Department is subject to compliance with the regulations stipulated in the J&K Paramedical Council Act of 2014. Furthermore, the institute is strictly prohibited from charging any capitation fee from the students.
The permission granted to the institute is subject to any future policies the government may implement to regulate such institutions, while H&ME has noted that the eligibility criteria for admission to these courses will be determined on a merit basis according to the provisions set forth by the Government through the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examination.
As part of the agreement, the college will charge a nominal fee of Rs. 5000/- per trainee per session for providing hospital facilities. The collected amount will be utilized for the Hospital Development fund of the hospital affiliated with the institute.
